On July 9, 2023 the Governor of Vermont declared a State of Emergency.
How did VLJP respond?
On July 9, 2023, rain began to fall throughout Vermont, resulting in catastrophic and devastating flooding for many communities. VLJP was able to respond within 24 hours by producing videos in 16 languages about how to stay safe during flooding and very heavy rainfall. Within a week, our videos had over 2,000 views, and by mid-September had been viewed over 7,000 times. Since then we have continued to produce videos on a range of subjects related to the flooding for specific language communities.

"In the immediate hours and days following the 2023 summer floods, our farming community was dealing with both immediate dangers related to moving water and the threats of produce contaminated by flood water. We needed an immediate and widespread process to communicate with as many people as possible—not just those who farm. The Vermont Language Justice Project stepped in with efficiency and effectiveness and in less than 24 hours we had produced a public service announcement in 16 languages and had thousands of views."
